An individual who laced sweets with sedative and distributed them to minors at a summer program in the region has admitted sexual offences against two boys both between nine and ten.

The accused was arrested after eight children and one adult experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in July.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, detailed Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She explained his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he ran.

Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "as fast as possible".

She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She said Ruben had been capable of justifying this for many years as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had concerns in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his family member had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.

"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC said items including lubricant, Vaseline and syringes were located, and his stepson contacted the police about his suspicions.

She stated the defendant continued to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the next day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining law enforcement's management of the situation.

The legal representative explained the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member contacted the authorities again.

She explained the man then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
