Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.
A senior official said the incident made him without words and required to be solved promptly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
