Why this DNC Refuses to Release its 2024 Election Autopsy: The Inside Story.

The decision by the Democratic National Committee to block the publication regarding its own autopsy report concerning the last presidential race appears remarkable yet to be expected. Resistant to hard truths, the party's leadership apparatus often functions closer to a publicity machine than an electoral entity focused on building grassroots capacities for winning elections.

A Culture That Avoids Dissent

Hesitant to break with the party establishment's culture demanding unity, the DNC has stayed under the Biden-Harris shadow all through this past year. Publishing an official autopsy could have demonstrated whether party leaders truly desire to encourage public discourse about the missteps that enabled Donald Trump to return to the White House. Instead, the DNC is proceeding under the pretense that there is little to be learned from the tragic debacle from the last cycle.

"Here’s our North Star: is this good for winning elections? If the answer is no, it becomes a sideline issue from what truly matters," an explanation reportedly given to justify concealing the document.

Critical Problems an Analysis Might Have Examined

A genuine analysis worth its salt would tackle head-on key points of failure. Among them are:

  • Electoral Alienation: Failing to retain among millions of voters who supported the Democratic ticket during the previous election became a critical factor in the close 2024 election.
  • The Choice to Run: The determined choice of a party leader to run again, alongside a very late step-aside, is seen by some as robbing the party's base of a competitive nomination process.
  • Abandoning Everyday Americans: Amid inflation, the campaign allegedly ceding to powerful financial backers and not managing to confront the role of profit-seeking.
  • The Foreign Policy Impact: The failure to adjust an approach regarding the situation in Gaza is cited as driving away significant blocs, particularly with youth voters, Arab American communities, and Muslim Americans.
  • Eroding Young Voter Backing: Research indicates a significant decline of votes for the candidate from the youth electorate.

A Pattern Avoiding Accountability

The decision to withhold aligns with a recurring tendency of sidestepping difficult realities. This mirrors a dynamic in which the vast majority of Democratic officeholder in Congress supported a sitting president's decision for running for re-election until a poor televised debate compelled an exit.

At the same time, large majorities within the party's base had been continually telling researchers of their opposition to the incumbent to seek re-election.

Campaign Spending Concerns

An honest analysis would also probe issues about where money went, including what sums went to party strategists and ad buyers during a campaign that managed to spend a staggering war chest in a short period.

The Underlying Problem

Ultimately, the blockage surrounding this report is symptomatic of a deference toward the established hierarchy responsible for a disastrous national race. The signal for ordinary supporters – which includes countless small donors – appears to be that they do not have a right to understand the lessons the insiders have learned based on hundreds of interviews based on conversations with insiders.

A party unable to honestly assess its own failings finds it difficult to climb out of the cycle that ended up being so advantageous to the winning candidate.
